8 of the most outrageous festive food offerings in shops this Christmas

Sloe gin mince pie, anyone?

EVERY CHRISTMAS, SUPERMARKETS and restaurants race to create festive versions of regular foodstuffs. What’s on the market this year? Let’s see…

1. Marks and Spence’s Christmas Pudding Smoothie

The main ingredient is ‘raisin purée’ and that’s all you need to know. (DailyEdge.ie conducted a Snapchat taste-test of this. It was rotten. Don’t do it to yourself.)

2. Pepsi’s Salted Caramel flavour

Let’s just talk through the reasoning here. Pepsi is very sweet, so why not add… more sweetness to it? People who have tasted it compare it to drinking toffee popcorn. Upsetting.

3. Aldi’s Yorkshire Pudding Burrito…

Designed to serve five people, this ‘burrito’ is made up of a beef brisket in mushroom sauce, wrapped up in a big Yorkshire pud. It appears to be a UK-only deal, and y’know what? We’ll let them have it.

4. Salted caramel gammon…

Glazing a ham with honey isn’t new, but pouring caramel sauce over it, as you are advised to do with this gammon?! I dunno, it seems pretty unorthodox…

5. Sloe gin mince pies…

Oh sorry, ‘tarts’. These are regular mince pies, infused with a touch of sloe gin. We can’t say how this would improve or add to the taste, but people sure love gin.

6. And Prosecco cocktail sausages

My, would we have loved to be in the Aldi meeting rooms when they were dreaming up all of this. Put Prosecco on it! Throw gin in it! DO SOMETHING!

7. KFC’s Celebrations milkshake

Hold up – this sounds good, actually. Galaxy, Galaxy Caramel, Malteasers, Mars and Twix, all blended up into a milkshake? We must investigate this POST HASTE.

8. And Tesco’s Candy Cane crisps

Way to bring us back down to earth with a bump, Tesco. People who have tried these describe the taste as: “Eating crisps after you’ve brushed your teeth”. Delightful.
